Why Triangle Acres? We started out with a small plot of land in between a state highway and a major rail road. When the perimeter fencing went in, we realised we had a triangle!
We started with miniature horses 6 years ago - we still have a few. Our journey with ponies began 4 years ago. We went to a sale one day looking for a few good miniatures - and fell in love with Shetland ponies.
Why did we fall in love with Shetlands? Shetland ponies no longer are the ponies we 'grew up with'. They are an elegant and sophisticated small equine breed that currently has 4 categories and several height divisions.
A quick study - the 4 categories of Shetland Ponies are:
Foundation- they look and feel like the ones we grew up with, but have become a bit more refined.
Classic - a very refined smaller pony, a bit more sophisticated than the Foundation.
Modern Pleasure - a snappy moving, ultra refined pony. For the layman - something between a Classic and a Modern Pony.
Modern - High moving action and a power house of a pony to be envied! Reminds one of a Saddlebred Harness horse.
Height divisions: There are several height divisions and depending on what age your pony is (foal vs. over 4 years old) and the height measured at the beginning of a show, gives us our height division within the 4 categories of ponies.
Currently Triangle Acres is the home to 12 Classic and Modern Pleasure Ponies and we still have our original 4 miniature horses as well.
